I usually try to release these blog posts every other Monday, but this week, I was in Tucson, AZ to speak at the annual ALA Conference. I’m surprised more of you weren’t there.
Every year the event is packed with interesting talks and speakers. I was there to speak about Dark Sky lighting. There were multiple sessions discussing controls, showroom design and small business finance. Yes, there is plenty of time for fun (I enjoyed a great meal at Tito & Pep and tried a “Sonoran Hot Dog” for the first time) and there is celebration of achievement both individually and collectively. Most importantly, this is a conference with a whole room of “lighting people.” The amount of meaningful conversations was amazing.
Perhaps you are a member of the ALA and have never attended this event. Maybe you went “years ago” or it could be that joining has never entered your thoughts. Regardless I urge you to check out the 2027 version. They’re going to Boston and it is usually around the end of September. If history is any lesson, it is sure to be informative and fun with a wonderful collection of people who understand when you say, luminaire, foot-candles and lamp (not light bulb.)
